Challenges in Interprofessional Health and Social Services
A cooperation between the ZHAW School of Health Professions, the ZHAW School of Social Work, the INUAS and the COHEHRE network.
We offer a unique opportunity to meet Swiss and otherinternational students to discuss similarities and differences when collaborating interprofessionally within the health and social system. Together, students of health professions and social work learn during role plays, study visits and interactivelectures about working together in interprofessional teams,about different health and social systems or how to sensiblyact with clients from different cultures. At the same time, the beauty of the Swiss Winter Mountains is only a short travel away.
The courses we offer are:

Target group: All students of Health related Study Programs and Social Work Programs (Bachelor or Master)
Dates: 7 January to 1 February 2019
Duration of stay: flexible from 1 up to 4 weeks

Preliminary allocation of places:
-Bilateral Partners of ZHAW School of Health Professions or ZHAW School of Social Work: 3 students per partner-study-program. Within one institution, free places of one study program can be given to another.
-Other institutions: 3 students per institution.
-If you have more students being interested, we will put them on a waiting list. Normally, we have enough free places to accommodate all waiting list students.
Please send us a list of interested participants via Email latest by the end of September 2018 to firstname.lastname@example.org to be able to inform about free places early October.
-After nomination, students have to register online until 15 October 2018 at zhaw.ch/health/winterschool/registration.
Registration opens 1 July 2018.
-Early nomination and registration will increase the chances that students can be placed in the course(s) of their choice.

Interdisciplinary Programme on Palliative and End-of-life Care
The Interdisciplinary Programme on Palliative and End-of-life Care’ has been developed in cooperation with 7 European Universities and 2 North-American Universities: Univer-sity of Connecticut (UCONN) and the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC).
In January 2019 the project will be organized in two parts: a Preparatory Programme and an Intensive Programme in Ghent, Belgium, 27th January till 1st February 2019.

International week 2019 – Challenge your borders (too)
This year, International Week 2019 will be held from 4 to 8 February 2019 at the HAN campus in Nijmegen. The aim of the International Week is sharing experiences, practices and knowledge between students and lecturers in the international context of Health and Social Work. This year’s general theme is Challenge your borders too: health and Social Work in international perspective. The main target group of the International Week are second year students of the Bachelor programmes of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies. The International Week provides students and lecturers the opportunity to meet international colleagues and discuss the latest developments in the field and in education.
International student program: Urban Exploration
This programme will be organized next to the annual International Week in Nijmegen. The programme aims to enhance awareness of different kinds of public health issues. Subjects will be studied and adapted both from an European perspective and from the the context of the hosting country. Students will be divided over several neighborhoods of Nijmegen. Social structure and public health care will be studied through visits of health care organizations and interviews with local health care professionals an citizens.

Nijmegen is a municipality and a city in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is situated on the Waal river, close to the German border. Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands
In the programme HEALTH 2020 we focus on the exchange of ideas and experiences concerning health care issues. The contact programme is a combination of lectures, workshops, project work, site visits, assignments, group work and student presentations. Teachers and guest speakers from the clinical practice will work with you during the different workshop and lectures. The students work in two projects on active ageing and developing imagination with children of a mainstream school.

Culture in Healing – Healing in Culture
The quality of the relation connecting the health worker to the patient is an important element of the healing process. The cultural distance separating the two often creates an invisible bias producing unnecessary tensions, compromising successful patient- professional cooperation. Minorities and migrants are often cited as obvious examples of cultural otherness; it is less readily recognised that patients coming simply from different social contexts than that of the majority population might also pose problems to the medical system.
Aim of the seminar:
to introduce and discuss a method based on the work of French social psychologist Margalit Cohen- Emerique to increase self-consciousness and self-reflection of health professionals being able to cope with intercultural issues. A conceptional framework and important keys will be given to understand better cultural patterns different from theirs, in order to render their work more efficient and less contentious.

Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences kindly invites international students and teachers to join an inter-professional study group at the School of Healthcare Studies during the international week Urban Health. This one-week program runs twice a year.

Diversity and Social inclusion (DiSI)
Diversity and Social Inclusion is a program of study aimed at enhancing awareness of different kinds of social inequalities rooted in many different ways of diversity in our contemporary societies, including those related to digital poverty and the usage of innovative technologies in health care.
It will support the development of core competences in future educators, health care professionals and social workers with the help of an already piloted interdisciplinary model (ICIC) based on blended learning approach.
This model could improve the sensibility to differences in cultural, socio-economic and health status, and the unequal distribution of social resources.
The organisation of the course consists of two modules. The expected outcomes of a preparatory assignment (module 1) based on distance learning will result in a 5-day intensive program (module 2) with activities taking place in a multi-professional and multicultural context in Vic, Spain.

IV International Conference on Health Research:
responding to the changing world
The IV International Conference on Health Research: responding to the changing world aims to focus on research responses to the rapid changes at the global level, based on political, social, cultural, educational and economic transformations that influence health. It also provides an opportunity for academics and professionals from different health areas to bridge knowledge and promote interest in health care research and development. This conference will take place at the Portuguese Red Cross Northern Health School, on April 10, 11 and 12, 2019. Evidence-based practice in health is extremely important for a safe care, adequate and scientifically valid practice. All health processes and procedures must be properly contextualized, consistent and rigorous so that they are valid and recognized by the scientific and global community. The challenge is to build an innovative response in global health, health education, family and community health, responses to health / disease processes, health information systems and technologies, virtual reality and simulation. Following previous editions we intend to promote collaboration of excellency between academics and practicionners from the various health disciplines in the creation of research networks.
