Nature and Adventure
Promoting Well-being

Description
Urbanization is emerging as one of the most important global health issues of the 21st century, with cities becoming epicenters for chronic, non-communicable physical and mental health conditions. There is growing recognition of the crucial rol of forests and other green spaces adressing this public health care challenge, with over 40 years of research showing that experiences of nature are linked to a remarkable breadth of positive health outcomes: improved physical health and mental well-being, greater social well-being and promotion of positive health behavior.

Still too often we don’t recognize the effect of nature and evironment on us. When working with clients we should be able to support them to manage everyday activities in their natural environment. This course will teach a mindset of using nature with our clients and to find out more about our own relation towards the environment and life that surrounds us. Making us realise the importance of environments and meaningful experiences for our clients and use them as a part of our work as health and social care professional.

COHEHRE Webinar: Diversity management and optimal use of the cultural capital of the international students within the international classrooms @ Microsoft Teams
Jun 3 @ 16:30 – 17:30
COHEHRE Webinar: Diversity management and optimal use of the cultural capital of the international students within the international classrooms @ Microsoft Teams

International and intercultural competencies are considered to be of major importance to future graduates in higher education. Yet, the international classroom does not foster these competences automatically; the desired exchange between students with different cultural backgrounds is all too often not taking place. Scholarly research confirms that exposure is not the same as competence (Van de Berg et al., 2012; Brinkmann & Van Weerdenburg, 2014). If the cultural capital present in the international classroom is not being observed, and not actively used, it is also not very likely to produce the desired outcomes.

In this webinar we will present a Comenius Senior Fellow project for which Hanze received a two year grant. This project aims at developing and facilitating educators who are confidently addressing (culturally) different perspectives relevant in both theory and practice. We are inspired by the concept of commitment in relativism (Perry, 1970; Kurfiss, 1981), i.e. an ability to make educational and didactical choices in a more conscious way, rooted in close review of an international educational context, meanwhile still authentically adhering to a particular point of view, or to a particular school of thought.

We aim to achieve this by developing the following instruments:

  1. transferable techniques for internationalized program and curriculum design;
  2. providing a learning community where lecturers practise to enact cultural sensitivity (IC-studio)
  3. a (digital) IC ToolShed with best practices of intercultural effective didactics;
  4. a student survey for measuring the effects of our actions.

The project will have a direct impact on 36 lecturers and close to 600 students from within three different schools (Business, Health and Life Science).

Rethinking internationalisation of the home curriculum @ Microsoft Teams

Rethinking internationalisation of the home curriculum @ Microsoft Teams

Rethinking internationalisation of the home curriculum

Description

During the current COVID-19 crisis, people often remark that is time to focus on internationalization at home because students cannot go abroad. However, internationalization at home it is not an alternative to mobility. Rather, it forms the basis for internationalization for all students. When student mobility will resume it will be, like before, for a small minority of (privileged) students. The great majority of students will continue to depend on the home curriculum for global, international and intercultural perspectives. So, while mobility of the majority of students has not changed as a consequence of COVID-19, this is a good time to rethink the internationalization of our curricula.

During this course we will work hands on, starting with the vision on internationalization of each programme of studies, rethinking that if required. We will then engage with the instruments that shape internationalization of the curriculum, including virtual exchange and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). We will practice articulating learning outcomes of programmes of study and of modules that form the curriculum.

Sessions will consist of input, discussions in teams and plenary discussion. Between the sessions, participants will work on assignments for their own study programme. They will upload these and receive feedback. Half way between the formal sessions, there will be informal sessions for discussion and questions.

Objectives
Main objectives of the course:

  • The participants have working knowledge of internationalization of the home curriculum, its rationales, aims and its potential
  • The participants are able to articulate international and intercultural aspects of the curriculum by internationalizing learning outcomes and assessment

Online, Microsoft Teams

New Erasmus 2021-2027 @ Microsoft Teams

NEW ERASMUS 2021-2027

Theme of the course
During their professional education and postgraduate studies and their working life, many health care professionals (but also other professionals) nowadays plan some time abroad encouraged by their faculty management to broaden their personal and professional expertise. Others plan multi-centered cooperation/research activities, which include the home university as well as selected partners. International coordinators are the ones to support these activities and should therefore be up-to-date and familiar with the Erasmus+ to facilitate all of the before-mentioned activities,

Within the European Union, the Erasmus+ project was established to increase student and staff exchanges. The costs of these activities are EU funded and can be reimbursed to participants, if they apply for it through their international office.

Eventually different persons shy away from applying because of bureaucratic demands or other shortcomings, such as language proficiencies. The EU encourages all applicants, and especially those with a not so well-financed background or other social hindrances to apply for funding.

Health care professionals can benefit in learning new and different points of view related to one´s own study topic. Coming back, they will be able to proffer new insights and also in the long-term, society can benefit from an intereuropean/worldwide exchange, which is one of the goals of Erasmus.

They will profit in building/deepening personal capabilities (e.g. social, language, research, cooperation) and professional expertise and how to represent one’s own profession. They will also broaden their inter-cultural competencies and become global citizens.

Main objectives of the webinar and consultancies:

  • To enhance the familiarity with prerequisites to plan Erasmus funded activities.
  • To learn about different steps to be undertaken in reasonable time slots with home university and partner university for student/staff exchange or shared research/cooperation.
  • To help international coordinators in doing the specific task of facilitating staff/student exchange
  • To be given tips on how to write a successful proposal for application meeting the pre-fixed deadlines.
  • To enhance familiarity with templates/documents demanded by the European Commission and the participating agencies NAs and the EACEA.
  • To learn about personal skills to be possibly improved by using Erasmus and how these will be possibly implemented into a.o. health care professions and society, as well as in other professions, linked to the COHEHRE wide range of members and partners.
